University of Southampton wished as part of an integrated campus strategy to release land for commercial use and realise new teaching and research facilities for the life sciences and the Schools of Medicine & Nursing. These projects life science,

Bob lead a project team of consultants to develop, design and procure these facilities which were to:
- Reduce the cost of maintaining a life expired building
- Consolidate life science assets from around the campus
- Reduce the future asset lifetime cost though sustainable efficiency
- Introduce new ways of learning, for teaching and working all staff and students
- Provide flexibility of use in the facilities learning, teaching and working
Result
Worked effectively with Senate and school stakeholders to pass smoothly through the programme gateways on schedule. Design and construction approach and methodology was based on sustainable operation and lean construction principles.
- Planned cost of maintaining the life expired building was not exceeded
- Planned future asset lifetime cost was met
- New ways of learning, for teaching and working all staff and students were provided for together with flexibility of use in the facilities learning, teaching and working
- Adopted a Gateway methodology to challenge the scope, cost and schedule together with programme wide risk identification, tracking, treatment before sign off by the steering committee and Senate.
